Beaches

Sydney’s famous beaches such as Bondi and Manly are amongst some of the city’s most popular attractions. Bondi beach is best known for its surfing but is popular for swimming and sunbathing – summer months can see the beach get quite crowded. There are shops and fashion boutiques if you need time out of the sun. The lesser known Coogee beach isn’t as crowded and has calmer waters. There is a walk between Coogee and Bondi that offers spectacular scenery.

A bit further out of the city, Manly is also known for its surf but the rougher waters can make swimming less enjoyable.

If you want to venture further north of the city, Palm Beach is famous as the setting for TV soap Home & Away.

Culture

For the more culturally orientated, The Sydney Opera House will see you watching a music concert or opera performance if you want a bit of a splurge.

And there are plenty of museums to explore, too, such as the Hyde Park Barracks Museum, the Art Gallery of New South Wales – entry to this premier art institution is free, with everything from Indigenous to Asian art on display.

There is the Australian National Maritime Museum, while the Royal Botanic Gardens have everything from succulents to herbs, as well as a tropical greenhouse. These Gardens are thought to date back to 1810.

Sydney is Calling

Feel like a taste of Australia’s biggest city? Moving to Sydney is the dream for many Kiwis, who want a world of job opportunities, amazing weather and internationally famous beaches all at their doorstep.
